Party Of One

Bean there. Done that.

Never would I have ever imagined I'd travel solo. Anywhere. Ever. I used to never go to the mall by myself. Now, I definitely go to the mall by myself. Ha!

But really. Traveling, sitting in a restaurant by myself, going to a baseball game by myself- never would I ever consider this. However, it's kind of become normal for me now. How such a 180? I think it was because of one my work trips. I had to go to Louisville by myself. And ever since, I haven't looked back. There are so many benefits to traveling alone. Here are my top 4. (4 because that's my favorite/lucky number).

1. You are on your own schedule
That's right. No time is wasted waiting on people. When traveling, there is never anytime to waste. Waiting on people is the worst and the thing I despise the most while I'm traveling is wasting time when I could be out exploring.

2. You do you
You get to do whatever you want. This kind of piggybacks to number one. But you don't have to make sure everyone in your party is okay with or wants to do something. The only person you need to worry about is you. If you want to go see something that only interests you, then guess what. You get to go see it.

3. You no longer have a comfort zone
I've recently become an advocate for getting out of your comfort zone. My comfort zone became restricted and was no fun. I felt held back. Which, if you know me, if someone tells me to do something, I don't really like to do it. I want to do the opposite. Better yet, I love when people say I can't do something. It just lights a fire in me to make sure I do it. I love a challenge and traveling solo has given me a challenge that I gladly accepted. And I'd like to think I'm holding my own with this challenge.

4. You find yourself
No, I'm not talking about in a bar chatting with locals. Or out late walking in the bustling streets of Times Square. (Though, yes. Highly likely, that is where you could find me!) But I'm talking about how you find yourself spiritually. You never thought you could do something like traveling on your own. But you somehow manage. You manage it well. You also build your confidence and you learn to rely on yourself. Traveling solo suits you well.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind travel companions. I'm not closed off to having people join me. I just find such beauty and independence in traveling alone.

XO Pep
